Welcome to the Third Annual Summer Symposium of The Reading League Oklahoma!

We’re thrilled to gather once again with educators, leaders, and advocates from across the state who are committed to advancing evidence-aligned literacy instruction. This year’s symposium—A Palette of Possibilities—creating a world of literacy grounded in evidence of research, practice, and innovation, shaping the future of reading in Oklahoma. Whether you’re deepening your knowledge of the science of reading or exploring new strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, this event is designed to empower, inspire, and connect us. Together, we’re painting a brighter literacy future—one possibility at a time.

As an assistant professor at Marietta College, Michelle Elia prepares pre-service teachers to teach reading using evidence-based language and literacy practices. Michelle previously served as Ohio Literacy Lead and has taught students in preschool through high school. Michelle is a nationally recognized literacy professional development provider, training educators in literacy instruction and assessment within an MTSS framework grounded in reading science. She serves as a school board member of her local district and president of The Reading League Ohio. A lifelong learner, Elia is pursuing her doctorate in Reading Science at Mount St. Joseph University. Michelle is passionate about teaching and applying the science of reading and the science of learning to the classroom. When she is not talking about reading, her favorite job is being a mom to her three not-so-small children.
